Recording touch events on an interactive wall

The system was designed to be a useful tool to assist research on interactive touch surfaces. The project can be split into two parts; the Recorder and the Replayer. The recorder is a program which runs behind the scenes from the main application. It is a command line tool that captures and interprets TUIO touch information. The touch information from TUIO is combined with spatial information from a Kinect to assign a user id to each touch event. The information is processed and stored in a log file. The processed touch events are also relayed back to the main application where it may be used in real time to provide user identification. The replayer is a simple GUI application which reads in log files from the Recorder. The replayer provides tools to watch the events that took place on the wall and help with analysis.

The goals of this project are:

  • Simple to use
  • Easy to integrate into an existing application
  • Assist researchers
